Providing education and training to Plymouth, Devon, Cornwall and the wider community
City College Plymouth’s Work-based Learning Department has announced a shortage of apprentices for local employers, with apprentices being needed for administration, customer service, hairdressing, chef, front of house and engineering.
Sue Reed, Programme Area Manager at the College said: “Apprenticeships are an excellent way of gaining qualifications and workplace experience. As an employee, you can earn as you learn and you gain practical skills from the workplace. Research shows that apprentices earn, on average, over £100,000 more throughout their lifetime than other employees.
“These Apprenticeship positions are for an immediate start – subject to each candidate meeting the assessment criteria.”
Apprenticeships can take between one and four years to complete depending on the level of Apprenticeship, the apprentices’ ability and the industry sector.
All employed apprentices must receive a wage of £95 per week*. However, as skills develop, many employers tend to increase wages – in fact, research has found that apprentices earn an average of £170 net pay per week.
As employees, apprentices earn a wage and work alongside experienced staff to gain job-specific skills. Off the job, usually on a day-release basis, apprentices receive training to work towards nationally recognised qualifications. Anyone living in England, over 16 and not in full-time education can apply.
