They managed well…………………..

Public service students at City College Plymouth became managers of a mock disaster for a day.

Second year students enjoyed the ‘table top exercise’ in the College’s sports hall as part of their Planning for and Management of Major Incidents unit of the programme.

The mock incident – dubbed ‘Operation Fallen Angel’ – was designed to imitate the scene of a major air crash. The students took on the roles of bronze commanders’ and were expected to manage the scene.

The Royal Air Force ran the event, with the help of the police, fire and ambulance services, who all gave invaluable advice and guidance to the students.

Lindsay Chapman, lecturer at the College said: “The networking between the College and the emergency services in the area is invaluable to the public service course, as the students are given a realistic insight into the role and responsibilities of the uniformed services.”

Flight Lieutenant, Charles Paffett said: “I have been extremely impressed with how all the students took on their roles with gusto and tackled the many injects with steely determination. This level of exercise has demonstrated the importance of engaging with other agencies and why it is so vital to retain a cool head when the pressure is on.”
