Providing education and training to Plymouth, Devon, Cornwall and the wider community
Tel: 01752 305300
City College Plymouth is holding an Apprenticeship open day on Saturday 30 June between 10.00am and 3.00pm at Picquet Barracks on Cumberland Road, Devonport.
Visitors will have the opportunity to learn about the benefits of becoming an apprentice - including earning a salary, receiving training, gaining qualifications and learning job-specific skills.
The College is encouraging local businesses to go along and find out about the business benefits Apprenticeships can offer them and to advertise any vacancies they may have.
Apprenticeships can benefit businesses from skills training turned to specific business needs, increased staff retention and motivation, support from experienced providers in recruitment, training from highly experienced and qualified College tutors, improved productivity and avoiding skills shortages.
The open day will also offer information on the additional schemes available from the Work-based Learning team at the College - including its Personalised Learning Programme (PLP) for 16-24 year olds who are not in employment, education or training. PLP is designed to provide the skills and confidence to help gain employment or move onto further education.
Alongside PLP is the Prince’s Trust Team Programme, designed to enhance the personal effectiveness and self-esteem of unemployed 16-24 year olds through a 12 week action packed programme designed to improve key skills.
Julie McLean, Head of Work-based Learning at the College, said: “In light of the further economic downturn more and more people are beginning to see the advantages of vocational training, especially apprenticeships where you can earn as you learn and become qualified.
“At every step of the way there is support from the College for both the student and the employer, and we have a number of high profile initiatives to support students, whatever their background and ability.”
