Painting and decorating students at City College Plymouth have embraced equality and diversity by taking part in a competition to design boards on the theme.
The students were asked to produce eye-catching, design boards representing equality and diversity, using their painting and decorating skills.
Kaine Withers, 18, was announced as a worthy winner for producing a board reflecting on an innovative ‘liquorice allsorts’ themed design, demonstrating his understanding of how equality and diversity is recognised by the College and the fact that learners are drawn from a diverse range of social and ethnic backgrounds.
Kaine will be presented with a trophy and certificate by Brewers Painting and Decorating, who sponsor the College’s painting and decorating workshop on Wednesday 11 July.
Kaine said: “The competition was really enjoyable and I was really surprised to be chosen as the winner!”
Painting and decorating lecturer at the College, Chris Manuell, said: “It is essential that all of our students have a good understanding of equality and diversity and what it means to them.
“We plan to run this competition annually to promote this important subject to our students.
The College’s Equality and Diversity Co-ordinator, Cathie Maddock, said: “We are a College of respect where we welcome and value people from all backgrounds and cultures.
“This competition is a great example of how we promote and encourage equality and diversity with ours students.”
