Young people looking for a different experience from school; sixth formers interested in a university-level qualification; adults wanting to get back to work, change careers or improve their prospects, were able to explore their options at City College Plymouth’s Open Day. The College welcomed more than 800 people through its doors on Saturday.
The event showcased the College’s wide range of career-focussed courses, with staff offering advice on full-time, part-time, access, university-level and Apprenticeships options. Visitors were able to view the industry-standard facilities and join in with practical demonstrations across the College, as well as take in music and dance performances.
Student Ambassadors were on hand to talk about their experiences and life at the College; they were able to tell potential students about the value of gaining both specific knowledge for their future careers and the wider work skills that employers want. Local employers from a mix of sectors were also in attendance, giving an insight into their industry and the career opportunities within it.
One visitor said the highlight of their visit was “Learning about the different courses that I could apply for to suit me and my future career”, while others said their highlights were “Having a practical session”, “Meeting employers” and “Looking round the facilities”.
For anyone who wasn’t able to attend Open Day, the College is holding a Course Information Drop-in on Wednesday 8 March 4.30pm to 6.30pm at Kings Road. To find out more, please visit cityplym.ac.uk/events or call 01752 305300.
