City College Finalist in National Awards

City College Plymouth is celebrating after reaching the finals of the prestigious Times Education Supplement (TES) FE Awards. The College was shortlisted in the Apprenticeship Programme of the Year category.

The Awards, held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London, recognise the dedication and expertise of the people who, on a daily basis, make a significant contribution to improving the skill levels of young people and adult learners.

The College is one of the largest Apprenticeship providers in the country, with a success rate of 16% above the national average. Working with more than 1,300 local employers, the College’s Apprenticeship programme has been rated as ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted. Winning the Association of College’s Beacon Award for Promotion and Delivery of Successful Apprenticeships, the College is rightly proud of its programme.

Director of Work-based Learning at the College and previous TES Lifetime Achievement Award Winner, Julie McLean MBE, said: “It is a huge honour to be a finalist in this category, and extremely pleasing to receive concrete evidence that the College’s commitment to delivering superb Apprenticeships is being recognised nationally. TES is known for its commitment to raising standards in education, so to have been recognised more than once is testament to the hard work and commitment of the whole team at City College. We are very proud of our Apprenticeship programme and how it continues to grow and develop.”

This year the College is expanding its Apprenticeship offer by adding new frameworks, including creative and cultural community theatre, which is already in high demand. The Work-based Learning team have also set up a pre-Apprenticeship course, to support vulnerable young people who might otherwise not consider Apprenticeships as a route.

To find out more about Apprenticeships and other study options, the College is holding a Course Information Drop-in, on Wednesday 8 March, 4.30pm to 6.30pm, at Kings Road. Please visit cityplym.ac.uk/events or call 01752 305300 for more information.
