College Academies Looking for Future Sports Stars
Talented in basketball, football or rugby? City College Plymouth’s three sports academies are currently on the lookout for aspiring young players to join the study and coaching programmes in 2017.
Run in partnership with the City’s leading professional sports teams, the academies combine expert coaching and fitness conditioning with any full-time course; players can develop their skills in their chosen sport, while studying at the College to gain academic and vocational qualifications.
As well as working with coaches and players from the professional teams, the budding sports stars will get an insight into working in the world of sport through placements and work experience and competing in competitive matches. They will also benefit from sessions with the College’s expert strength and conditioning team and have the opportunity of taking part in coaching and officiating courses.
City College Academy Manager for Leisure and Tourism, Public Services and Sport, Charlie Legg, said: “The sports academies for basketball, football and rugby provide an excellent opportunity to develop in both a sport and academic setting. Our students receive a high standard of competitive coaching, combined with a good education and support from College lecturers. What makes the programmes so successful is the great relationship between Plymouth Raiders, Plymouth Argyle and Plymouth Albion and their coaching staff, and the City College Plymouth Sports Department.
“We offer a range of study options from intermediate through to university level, and have devised a timetable that maximises the players’ time in the sports arena and in lectures. Some students progress to university study and playing programmes in other parts of the UK and overseas, while others take up opportunities within the City.”
To find out how to be part of this unique and exciting programme, lecturers from all the full-time courses will be available at City College’s Open Day on Saturday 5 November, 10.00am to 1.00pm at Kings Road. Visit our events page or call 01752 305300 for more information.
