Become a Coffee Professional at City College
With the new year comes all the resolutions, but rather than trying to create a new you, why not learn a new skill? City College Plymouth is offering a broad range of part-time courses for those who want to take a different career path, or learn something new.
One of the part-time options being introduced this year is a barista course for those keen to become connoisseurs of coffee beans.
The level 2 City and Guilds Award in Barista Skills is a short course providing an introduction to products used in making beverages; the course will cover where they come from and some of the processes they go through, from growing to the final product. Looking at the range of equipment, safety aspects and how to operate the machines, the course will train would-be baristas how to produce good-quality drinks consistently. At the end of the programme they will be able to demonstrate product knowledge, clean and check equipment, display drink building techniques and serve customers.
“The coffee industry is booming,” said Sean Gibson, Key Account Manager at City College. “With cafes on every street corner, the demand for baristas has never been higher. Thirty years ago this career path did not exist, but ‘coffee culture’ has seen a constant call for more trained baristas. The College is offering training on industry-standard machines with professional baristas, to help meet the demand for skilled workers. If you intend to further your career or train new staff members, this course is the first step.”
The course starts on Tuesday 25 April and runs 6.00pm – 9.00pm one day a week for three weeks. Spaces are limited, so early booking is advised by calling 01752 305026 or e-mailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
