A tiger resting - City College Sponsors Dartmoor Zoo

City College Plymouth has been announced as an official sponsor of the popular local tourist attraction, Dartmoor Zoo, enabling the Zoo’s education and research departments to continue their work around raising awareness of conservation issues.

CEO of the Zoo, Benjamin Mee, said: “Collaborating with educational establishments is something I seek to do on a regular basis here at the Zoo. It is a wonderful resource which is ideal for helping students develop their skills for work and progress down their chosen career paths, whilst at the same time enabling the Zoo to carry out projects which otherwise may not have been possible. Together we can achieve amazing things and I look forward to a long and fruitful relationship with City College Plymouth.”

As it progresses, the partnership will also give students the opportunity to gain valuable work experience at the Zoo in everything from engineering steel gates and building enclosure walls to catering events and conducting visitor studies.

Pauline Hands, Director of Marketing, Corporate Relations and Enterprise at City College, said: “We are delighted to be offering Dartmoor Zoo our support, although they are definitely one of the more unusual businesses we are working with in the region. It is very exciting for our students, who will have unique opportunities to get involved in unusual projects like designing viewing platforms for the lion and wolf enclosures or building new gates to keep in the bears! Work experience is vital to the development of the skills that employers are looking for from young people and working at the Zoo will really make a City College student’s CV stand out.”
