Charlie Peck

Charlie Peck is currently studying a Level 2 Diploma in Electrical Installation at City College Plymouth. Before starting his studies at the College, Charlie was a pupil at Callington Community College, an academy school in Cornwall.

Charlie says: “I chose City College not only because of the many different courses on offer but also because of the opportunities for continual progression. The College also offers Apprenticeship programmes and gives impartial careers advice which was important to me for my next steps after my level 2 course.”

Charlie comes from a practical family background and whilst he considered various different trades to specialise in, the one that appealed to him the most was electrical installations. He says: “My career aspiration is to become an Electrical Mechanical Engineer. I suppose I’ve always wanted to work in this field because I’m interested in how things work.”

Asked what he enjoys about the College course, Charlie says: “I enjoy everything about it, especially where it can take me in terms of job prospects. Electrical installation isn’t just about electrics; it teaches you vital problem solving skills and so you can push your career in many different directions.”

Commenting on the support available at the College, Charlie says: “my lecturers support me by helping when I need help, but also giving me the space to try things by myself when they know I can do it, or by giving me a nudge in the right direction.”

Following the level 2 course, Charlie would like to get an Engineering Apprenticeship at Princess Yachts. He adds: “However, if that doesn’t work out, I have applied for the Level 3 Electrical Installations course at the College to further develop my career.” Charlie’s advice to anyone considering studying Electrical Installation at City College is: “Go for it because the course and College have a lot of opportunities to offer. If you don’t like what you’re doing at the moment, speak to a Careers Advisor because they can help point you in the right direction for you.”
