Daryl came to City College to study a BTEC in Games Development and, on completion, continued onto the Foundation Degree in Games Design and Production.
“After finishing my A levels I didn’t know what career I wanted to go into; while I was sure that I wanted to go to university, I didn’t want to choose the ‘wrong’ degree. I chose City College because it allowed me to develop my skills and knowledge while I was still trying to find a profession that fitted me.
“The contact time with the lecturers was great! I was always able to get helpful feedback on my projects and assignments. In my second year of the BTEC, I started volunteering in the first-year classes and the level 2 BTEC class. I found that I really enjoyed teaching and helping others to learn. I kept volunteering as a classroom assistant through my Foundation Degree and became a Student Ambassador. From choosing to study at City College, I discovered I had a passion for teaching, which is what I hope to do professionally when I have finished my studies
“I automatically progressed onto the final year of a BSc in Digital Art and Technology, thanks to the College’s partnership with the University of Plymouth. The course allows you to develop the skills relevant to the games, technology and digital media industries, while allowing you to specify in your own area of interest. I will graduate this year and plan on applying for a PGCE to start a career in teaching.”
