At just 16, Erin knows exactly what she wants from life and is already on the right path to making her dreams a reality. After completing her GCSEs at Devonport High School for Girls, Erin decided to take a different route than most of her friends. While they chose to study A Levels at the school’s sixth form, Erin knew that wasn’t right for her and enrolled onto the Level 2 Certificate in Hair and Media Make-up course. Erin, a talented artist, had discovered her passion for make-up a few years before and, after doing some research, decided this was the best way to start working towards her dream career: make-up and special effects for theatre, film and television.
Erin said: “While this course covers many of the skills needed to be able to run your own hair and beauty salon, it also introduces you to some of the skills and techniques that are vital for a career in media make-up. While I have enjoyed some of the more generic aspects of the course, my goal is to work in special-effect make-up; creating wounds and other trauma make-up for TV and film.
“What is particularly good about this course is that you are encouraged to find what it is you are passionate about and to develop your own interests. My tutor Amanda has been incredibly supportive and the staff are all keen to listen to our opinions; they make it very enjoyable and we feel valued.”
Erin, who is not afraid to dream big, is planning to progress to the Level 3 Make-up Artistry course next academic year and hopes to eventually complete a degree in the subject. Beyond that, Erin has her sights set on London – maybe even Hollywood – and having been named as this term’s standout student in the hair and beauty department, there is a strong chance we will be seeing the name ‘Erin Bewers’ among the end credits of future blockbusters.
Erin added: “I have no regrets about coming to the College. I’m enjoying my course and I appreciate how much the staff value our thoughts and opinions on the curriculum. Everyone is really friendly here and the facilities are incredible. I made the right decision.”
