Luis Inacio

After studying his GCSEs at Tavistock College Luis Inacio decided he wanted to take a path other than A levels. A friend recommended City College so he dropped in to an Open Day to see what was on offer. Now in his second year Luis is considering his career options.

“I had a clear idea of what career path I wanted to take and the College offered the perfect course. The level 3 provision has given me a greater insight into the travel and tourism industry and a clear idea of the job opportunities available after I finish my qualification.

“During my time here I have been lucky enough to go on several trips including spending 4 days in New York. I have also made lots of new friends and gained so much more confidence in my abilities. Before coming to the College I would never have been able to deliver a presentation in front of my classmates. I didn’t think it would ever be possible for me to get up and talk in front of a room full of people and even though I still get nervous I know I can do it.  One of the best things about the College is the independence you gain; I have been given the freedom to manage my own work and time. I have thoroughly enjoyed the course and feel that I made the right decision choosing to study at the College rather than the traditional route of A levels.

“Studying at the College has given me the drive to succeed and I am set on my goal of working in the travel and tourism industry in the near future.

“I am currently planning to apply to Saga Holidays as a tour rep, or a crew member on a cruise liner, these roles involve taking care of groups of people over 50. I have a lot of experience with this age group as I regularly play indoor bowls at the Bere Alston Bowling Club and golf at Tavistock Golf Club with over 50s groups. I enjoy their company, they are very funny and I love listening to their life stories.

“For anyone who is thinking of studying travel and tourism at the College I say go for it! The course gives you so many different opportunities and opens so many doors. City College is a great place to make new friends and gives you the chance to explore new places.”
