Now a qualified Structural Surveyor at Babcock International, Mark specialises in work on surface ships. His work occasionally has him travelling up and down the country monitoring and surveying warships and submarines.
“The time came where I decided I’d like to progress my career, and Babcock agreed to fund my studies. I am extremely lucky that the company fully supported me when I took up a Foundation Degree at the College.
“The course was challenging, but the lecturers’ support was excellent. The staff always gave up their time if we needed help. The modules were invaluable in familiarising us with that kind of work we would undertake.
“A time which stood out for me was a field trip we took to the Langage Power station as part of our Thermodynamics module. It was an exciting opportunity to take a look behind the scenes. This hands-on approach to learning helped make the written coursework enjoyable and easier to understand as we could draw on real world experience.
“During the final year of my course I interviewed for a position as a trainee Surveyor and was successful. Since leaving the College everything I learnt has helped me continue to progress within my field and I hope to carry on climbing the career ladder.”
