Top three reasons to study FdSc Public Services and Community Management

  1. The lecturers are practitioners in the Sector and passionate about Public Service. As a result, the students gain a deeper understanding of what it is like to work on the front lines of the sector and helps them understand how theory works in practice.
  2. The course challenges your thinking about community and public service. It is a great mix of academic and practical professional experiences. Students are given the opportunity to work on real life issues through commissions from community and public services organisations and institutions based on a learning company model, where the classroom reflects a professional office environment. Students engage with practitioners across community and public services through visits, guest lectures and assignments. Examples of recent speakers are: Alison Hernandez, Police and Crime Commissioner; Cllr Kate Taylor, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Services; Shekinah, St Luke’s Hospice, Royal Navy Police, and a police chaplain. They develop key competencies ,transferable skills while engaging in academic pursuits.
  3. Smaller classes mean students benefit from more one-to-one contact with lecturers and the groups range in age, which means students have the opportunity to learn from each other in a safe learning environment. There are no exams and classes are engaging and challenging. The smaller classes offer a unique higher education experience and we work with other higher education courses such as health and social care and forensic science – and we are building on this continually.
