In this course, you will become familiar with how to use Adobe Illustrator software. Some of the skills covered include learning the basics of drawing with the pen tool, using image trace to convert photographs and images into vectors, converting lines and text into shapes. By the end of the course, you will be able to create vector art and basic graphic designs for logos, advertising, and posters.
Introduction to the interface of Adobe Illustrator (tools, project setup, artboards, layers) and creating basic usable vector shapes/logos.
Looking into layers, stroke placement, and gradients to create a finished vector shield graphic.
Setting text, outline type, type wrapping around objects, using the rulers and guides.
Design your own logo design on paper then use image trace to turn your art into digital editable vector art.
Looking at the basics of digital drawing within illustrator using a graphics tablet to design and experiment with the different brushes and colours available.
Adobe Illustrators masking techniques for imported images.
Perspective grid and drawing in Adobe Illustrator.
Basic gradient mesh creation and colour sampling.
Student-led experimentation week where you can bring in sketches, materials to use with Illustrator to produce vector art that inspires you.
Continuing own design to create final outcomes for printing.
Please note, the above course content should be viewed as a guide. The lecturer may choose to alter content according to student needs.
There are no specific entry requirements, however, you will need a pen, notebook and memory stick for each session. All other materials and equipment are provided
There are no exams.
Upon successful completion, you may progress to the level 2 course in Illustrator for Media.
Fees quoted apply to courses starting in the academic year 2020/21 (August 2020 – July 2021). There may be a slight increase in fees for courses starting 2021/22.
If you are aged 16-18, due to Government funding, tuition fees may not be applicable for your course. (Please note: this does not apply to Foundation Degrees or Access to Higher Education courses, and other courses not eligible for public funding.)
