About the course

How could an assertiveness training course help you? Do you want to be a better negotiator? A more confident communicator? A more assertive manager, or simply to speak out more in meetings to help convey your talents and opinions? This assertiveness course at City College Plymouth is a business course aimed at helping employees, managers and business owners to improve their skills, knowledge and confidence. If you sometimes find it difficult to express your thoughts, feelings and beliefs in a suitable and appropriate way, this assertiveness training will help you be more confident. You’ll learn practical techniques and tips to be able to stand up for your rights without alienating others and maintaining a professional approach. You’ll learn how to feel comfortable expressing your needs, wants and opinions in a direct, honest and appropriate way that is beneficial to your career and your organisation.

  • Definition of assertiveness and its benefits
  • Self-assessment for participants on their current assertiveness
  • Recognising assertive, non-assertive and aggressive behaviour in you, colleagues and customers
  • Identifying the effects of each type of behaviour
  • Understanding why people behave in non-assertive and aggressive ways
  • Identifying key areas at work where assertive behaviour will enhance individual and team performance
  • Practising assertive behaviour
  • How to produce effective action plans.
