This exciting and innovative BA (Hons) top-up degree provides you with the opportunity to extend and consolidate your music skills and knowledge to a professional level. There will be a strong focus on your subject specialisms and the creation of innovative musical output. You will identify, target and engage with audiences via live performance, production and digital media under the banner of a music production company run by the students. This will draw on previously developed skills in performing, devising, stagecraft, composing, arranging, improvisation, recording, and live sound.

Course information

The modules you will study include:

  • Developing specialist music skills
  • Organising a music event
  • What you see is what you Hear (visuals and music)
  • Outside the Box (research project)
  • Meet the Listener: Engaging your audience.

Students will create an industry portfolio and will embark on an individual journey of professional development through networking and employment opportunities; further increasing employment opportunities.

We welcome applications from those who have all of the following:

  • a Foundation Degree or equivalent level 5 qualification awarding 240 HE credits
  • five GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above, to include English and maths

or alternatively:

  • equivalent qualifications
  • relevant work experience.

You will be required to undertake an audition and interview.

You will be assessed through assignments, written, practical and/or work-based (depending on the topic).

Upon successful completion you may progress to further research or study, for example a PGCE or MA.

Other employment routes include a wide range of careers within the music industry, such as live performance; composing, producing and distributing your own music; collaborating with other media such as film, television, theatre, dance and computer game design.
