About the course

Do you want to train for a job as a beauty therapist, beauty massage therapist or beauty business owner? City College Plymouth can help take your skills in providing facials, manicures, pedicures, waxing, make-up and eye treatments to the next level with the City & Guilds Diploma in Beauty Therapy. You will need to be a good communicator and have excellent customer service, as you will practice on fellow students before you begin working on clients! As well as the practical training element, you will also learn about health and safety and how to promote products and services during this excellent one year, part-time course.

What you'll learn

You will study the following beauty therapy skills and techniques:

  • manicures
  • pedicures
  • facials
  • waxing
  • eye treatments
  • make-up
  • health and safety
  • threading
  • tanning treatments.

All units will be assessed practically and theoretically.You will be required to attend up to ten Saturday classes, 9.30am – 4.00pm.

Entry requirements

You will need to have:

  • four GCSEs at grades D-F (3-1), preferably to include a science-based subject
  • a level 1 qualification in hair and beauty
  • customer service experience
  • good personal presentation

You will be assessed via an online tests and assignments.

What's next?

Upon successful completion you may progress to the level 3 diploma in Body and Spa Therapy or Nail Technology Studies, or a range of further level 3 awards to advance your skills in beauty therapy.

Fees quoted apply to courses starting in the academic year 2018/19 (August 2018 – July 2019). There may be a slight increase in fees for courses starting 2019/20.
