About the course

Would you like to work as a therapist in a spa, on a cruise ship or at a 5* hotel? Prepare yourself for a career in the wellness and spa industry with this VRQ City & Guilds diploma in Body and Spa Therapy at City College Plymouth. This qualification specialises in massage and spa treatments and techniques: body massage, aroma massage, Indian head massage, stone therapy, and spa therapy. All these treatments are highly desirable and this is the perfect course to compliment a Level 2 Beauty Therapy or Level 3 Electrotherapy-based qualification. By expanding and improving on your salon planning, communication skills and sales techniques alongside health and safety practices, you will become a well-rounded spa professional.

This qualification will equip you with a range of specialist skills and knowledge required for working in the body therapies sector. You will learn to execute highly desirable therapies, study theories and gain underpinning knowledge and learn how to implement business practices.

What you'll learn

This qualification covers the wide range of skills and knowledge required for working in the body therapies sector, including:

  • body massage
  • massage using pre-blend aromatherapy oils
  • spa treatments
  • indian head massage
  • stone therapy massage
  • anatomy, physiology and pathologies.
Entry requirements

In our experience, in order to be successful on this course you will need one or more of the following:

  • four to five GCSEs at grades A*-C (including English and maths)
  • a BTEC first diploma in a related subject
  • a Level 2 Technical Certificate in Beauty Therapy or equivalent prior knowledge
  • a 14-19 higher diploma, successful completion of an Apprenticehsip programme, equivalent qualifications or releveant work experience.

There are externally set exams and internally-assessed practical exams for each subject area. You will also be required to a portfolio of work, which will include some assignments.

What's next?

On successful completion you be able to seek employment in the body therapy industry, either in a spa, salon or health resort.
