About the course

The AAT Access Award in Business Skills will introduce you to the world of work and will develop your employability skills. This course is ideal for you if you are looking for a route into employment or have minimal work experience and require additional support to progress. It may suit you if you are on a traineeship or if you are seeking to confirm and validate your existing skills and wish to progress onto higher level AAT courses. Studying this qualification will equip you with the basic numerical skills needed in the workplace, from simple calculations to working with decimals, percentages and fractions, and applying proportions and ratios.

What you'll learn

The qualification covers a range of skills and supporting knowledge in three units:

  • preparing for work
  • using numbers in business
  • sales and purchases in business.
Entry requirements

There are no entry requirements. Students should have a command of English and a desire to develop and enhance business numeracy skills. Students must join the AAT Annual Award membership which costs £44.


This course is marked by computer based assessments and are set and marked by AAT.

What's next?

The skills developed by studying this qualification will give you a solid base from which to seek employment, or to progress to the next level of learning. You may also wish to continue onto othher AAT short courses may be relevant such as the AAT Access Award in Accounting or the AAT Access Award in Bookkeeping.

“Fees quoted apply to courses starting in the academic year 2016/17 (August 2016 – July 2017). There may be a slight increase in fees for courses starting 2018/19.

If you are aged 16-18, due to Government funding, tuition fees may not be applicable for your course. (Please note: this does not apply to foundation degrees or access to higher education courses, and other courses not eligible for public funding.)”
