About the course

Would you like to train for a job in sport or sports coaching? This short, 16-week 1st4sport coaching course at City College Plymouth is ideal for sports players, sports performers and sports professionals who would like to obtain an introductory level sports coaching qualification. You will be able to develop the fundamental skills and principles required to safely deliver sports coaching sessions. This course can lead on to higher level sports courses here at the College.

What you'll learn

This qualification consists of the following four mandatory units:

  • understanding the fundamentals of coaching sport
  • understanding how to develop participant(s) through coaching sport
  • supporting participant(s)’ lifestyle through coaching sport
  • understanding the principles of safe and equitable coaching practice.
Entry requirements

There are no specific entry requirements.


Assessment is by an internally assessed portfolio.

On successful completion you may progress to higher level sports qualifications offered at the College.

Fees quoted apply to courses starting in the academic year 2017/18 (August 2017 – July 2018). There may be a slight increase in fees for courses starting 2018/19.
