About the course

Do you want to improve your English and learn a new skill at the same time? On this course, you’ll learn basic skills working in the hospitality and catering industry in a supportive and friendly environment. This course is ideal for those who are keen to begin a career but may be worried about joining an industry in their second language. It will provide you a solid foundation from which you can move onto higher level courses.

What you'll learn

This course will cover a variety of topics, including;

  • introduction to food, drink and cooking
  • basic cooking skills
  • basic food preparation and cooking
  • cooking with meat, fish and vegetables
  • baking bread, pastry and dairy products
  • grains, pulses and dairy products.
Entry requirements

You will need to have entry level 2 functional skills in English in order to be successful on this course.

Assessments/Exams

There will be two practical assessments and two short, written exams.

What's next?

On successful completion of this course, you may wish to progress to the Level 1 Diploma in Introduction to the Hospitality Industry.

Fees quoted apply to courses starting in the academic year 2018/19 (August 2018 – July 2019). There may be a slight increase in fees for courses starting 2019/20.

This course is aimed at those who are interested in beginning a career in the construction industry and who have English as their second language.
