The Foundation Degree is designed specifically to train, develop, and encourage you to be a creative, technical and versatile dancer and performer, with the ability to reflect on your developmental practice.
You will study ballet, jazz and contemporary dance, enabling you to work closely with lecturers and improve your technical skills and understanding.
You will also develop and hone your choreographic skills and will be put into real-life scenarios to showcase your work, for example live performances and dancing for camera.
There will be many opportunities to perform on a variety of platforms, participate in exciting workshops, and work with professional companies, gaining real life experience of working in the industry.
You will study the following subject areas:
- contemporary dance technique
- jazz dance
- classical ballet technique
- dance for musical theatre
- devising for performance
- the professional dancer
- creating dance for film
- academic and research skills.
We welcome applications from those who have all of the following:
- 64 UCAS tariff points (to include a full Level 3 qualification)
- five GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above, to include English and maths
- equivalent qualifications
- relevant work experience.
Should entry requirements not be met then individual cases will be considered.
You will be required to undertake a short practical audition, which will consist of presenting a one minute solo that you have devised in a dance genre of your choice.
International students will be expected to meet the English language requirements of IELTS 5.5 or equivalent and have the equivalent of the above level 3 qualifications or professional experience
You will be assessed through assignments, written, practical and/or work-based (depending on the topic).
Upon successful completion you may progress to the BA (Hons) Dance top-up degree at the College.
Other employment routes include: dance performer (with a company, through an agent, cruise ships, entertainment parks in the UK and abroad, commercial work, club work, local companies); dance teacher; arts administrator; choreographer; dance within the community.
Fees quoted apply to courses starting in the academic year 2020/21 (August 2020 – July 2021). There may be a slight increase in fees for courses starting 2021/22.
If you are aged 16-18, due to Government funding, tuition fees may not be applicable for your course. (Please note: this does not apply to Foundation Degrees or Access to Higher Education courses, and other courses not eligible for public funding.)
