About the course

Would you like to get a new job as a painter or decorator? The painting and decorating Apprenticeships at City College Plymouth could be an amazing starting point to get you into a job and starting your training at the same time! These two Apprenticeships are available at advanced and intermediate level, and incorporate a suite of qualifications including an NVQ in Decorative Finishing and Industrial Painting Occupations at either level 2 (intermediate) or level 3 (advanced). Intermediate Apprenticeship: if you are creative and prefer hands-on learning to being academic, this career route could be just what you need.  Whether you’re interested in painting or wallpapering your bedroom weird and wacky colours, a talent for graffiti art or wanting to learn how to do DIY decorating properly, an Apprenticeship could be your first step on a path to a career in painting and decorating! You’ll need to have an eye for detail, good hand-eye coordination and at times be able to follow technical drawings and plans. There’s a lot of hard work involved and you’ll need to be prepared to get messy, but if that doesn’t put you off, then your future is whatever you make it! Advanced Apprenticeship: this is ideal for those already qualified to level 2, who are used to re-decorating houses or applying heavy-duty finishes to huge structures. You will already have had plenty of practice painting and decorating experience. You might soon be employed on big commercial developments or on small-scale domestic jobs, repairs and restoration, so we will delve into the planning and organisational side in more detail. You will become confident using more complex, decorative and specialist finishes too.
