What's it all about?

Outdoor education is a growing industry with more and more people each year venturing into the outdoors to participate in adventurous activities. This course will give you an overall feel and idea about the outdoor industry and give you relevant experience and knowledge to progress onto gaining instructor qualifications. You will participate and lead a variety of adventurous activities that not everyone can have the opportunity to participate in. You will also work on teamwork skills, planning and evaluating skills, time management skills, communication skills. You will also improve on your self-confidence and realising that you can do more than you think!

As outdoor education professionals we understand the importance of being outdoors, not just for physical health but mental health as well. We will use this knowledge to pass onto yourselves so you can potentially progress into the outdoor industry.

Course information

The course involves a lot of time outside in all weathers. It covers a variety of units including:

  • participating in sport
  • outdoor and adventurous activities
  • leading an outdoor activity session
  • expedition experience
  • participating in sport
  • plan, deliver and evaluate an activity session
  • physical fitness and injuries
  • development of personal fitness
  • and many more!

You will be participating in a variety of activities throughout the year from:

  • mountain biking
  • rock climbing and abseiling
  • kayaking
  • canoeing
  • sailing
  • stand up paddle boarding
  • moorland walking
  • surfing
  • gorge scrambling
  • fitness sessions
  • and more.

You will also be planning and delivering your own sessions (under the supervision of a qualified instructor) – this will help you progress into the industry.

There are no specific entry requirements for this course.

All assessments will be via coursework such as presentations, witness statements, demonstrations, etc.

Upon successful completion you may progress onto a level 3 qualification of your choice (sport of public services) or onto an Apprenticeship within the outdoor industry.

Please note fees are quoted for one year only.
