The Engineering Pre-Apprenticeship Programme is designed for those who may have some more work to do before meeting the usual entry requirements for an engineering apprenticeship with Babcock International. But wait, there’s more! Successfully complete the programme with excellent attendance and behaviour, and you’ll get a GUARANTEED interview for Babcock’s Apprenticeship programme starting in September 2025 without having to apply via the regular application process.

Course information

The Engineering Pre-Apprenticeship Programme will provide you with underpinning knowledge that is essential for working in the engineering industry whilst also developing the practical skills required by employers. You will study the following:

  • working in engineering
  • principles of engineering technology
  • maintenance of mechanical devices and equipment
  • maintaining electrical equipment and systems
  • assembling and maintaining fluid power systems.

Alongside the subject areas above, during the programme you will also hear from guest speakers from Babcock and undertake a week’s work experience placement in the Dockyard. 

In order to be successful on this course you will need to have gained a grade 3 or above in GCSE English and maths. 

The course is assessed through a range of written assignments, online multiple choice tests, presentations, skills observations and team work exercises.

On successful completion of the programme and achievement of pre-agreed expectations, you will be fast tracked to interview for an Apprenticeship with the Babcock International Group. Alternatively, you may progress to the Engineering T Level at the College.
