What's it all about?

This Foundation Degree is designed specifically to train, develop, and encourage you to be a creative and technical dancer and performer. This will be achieved through regular technique sessions that are delivered by lecturers who have trained at a high level and have a wealth of vocational experience. You will be fully involved in the rehearsal process and will be given numerous performance opportunities, both internally and externally to the College. There will be many exciting workshops and opportunities to work with professional companies to gain real life experience of working in the industry. You will also become well-connected thanks to numerous networking opportunities.

Course information

You will study the following subject areas:

  • contemporary dance technique
  • jazz dance
  • classical ballet technique
  • dance for musical theatre
  • devising for performance
  • the professional dancer
  • choreography
  • creating dance for film
  • academic and research skills.

We welcome applications from those who have the following:

  • 64 UCAS tariff points (to include a full Level 3 qualification) or a T Level pass in an appropriate subject area
  • five GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above, to include English and maths

or alternatively:

  • equivalent qualifications
  • relevant work experience.

Should entry requirements not be met then individual cases will be considered.

You will be required to undertake a short practical audition, which will consist of presenting a one minute solo that you have devised in a dance genre of your choice.

International students will be expected to meet the English language requirements of IELTS 5.5 or equivalent and have the equivalent of the above level 3 qualifications or professional experience

You will be assessed through assignments, written, practical and/or work-based (depending on the topic).

Upon successful completion you may progress to the BA (Hons) Dance top-up degree at the College.

Other employment routes include: dance performer (with a company, through an agent, cruise ships, entertainment parks in the UK and abroad, commercial work, club work, local companies); dance teacher; arts administrator; choreographer; dance within the community.
