What's it all about?

This course will give you the basics of computing. You’ll learn programming, networking,
databases and many other aspects of the industry. It’s a good starting point for anyone wishing
to get into the IT industry.

The course covers the following …
Computer systems:

  • systems architecture
  • memory
  • storage
  • wired and wireless networks
  • network topologies, protocols and layers
  • system security
  • system software
  • ethical, legal, cultural and environmental concerns.

Computational thinking, algorithms and programming:

  • algorithms
  • programming techniques
  • producing robust programs
  • computational logic
  • translators and facilities of languages
  • data representation.

Programming project:

  • programming techniques
  • analysis
  • design
  • development
  • testing and evaluation and conclusions.

You will be required to have a working knowledge of software programming and some
knowledge of hardware components.
You will also need hold GCSEs at grade 4 in English and maths.

You will be assessed via exams.

Upon successful completion you may progress to a range of level 3 computing courses at the
College.

Please note fees are quoted for one year only.
