What's it all about?

This T-Prep Transition Programme is an exciting new type of course for school leavers, specifically designed to give you the knowledge and skills that the businesses of today need. 

If you have a passion for cookery and would like to pursue it as a career, this diploma will provide you with the relevant skills, knowledge and behaviours required for life in a commercial kitchen.

With excellent links to industry, guest lectures, state-of-the-art facilities and experienced teaching staff, there is no better grounding than this diploma! 


On successful completion you may be able to progress into employment or onto a level 3 T Level or Apprenticeship.


Course information

The T-Prep Transition Programme covers five key areas which will prepare you for your next steps: 

  •  knowledge and skills for the workplace (develop the skills that employers value most, for example communication and teamwork)
  • skills for successful study (develop strategies to plan your learning and manage your time)
  • English, maths and digital skills (learn how to apply the English, maths and digital skills that matter to your chosen industry; continue working towards achieving a GCSE grade 4 or Functional Skills level 2 in English and/or maths if you do not already have this)
  • industry-relevant technical knowledge and skills (study technical content to prepare you for the health or healthcare science industry)
  • positive attitude and behaviours (we’ll help you to set goals and develop practical strategies to build your confidence and resilience).

You will also study the following aspects of hospitality:

  • food hygiene

  • health and safety

  • team work

  • industry practice

  • work experience

  • cooking methods

  • ingredients

  • presentation methods 

  • employability.

In order to be successful on this T-Prep Transition Programme, you will need to have GCSEs at grade 4 or above in English and maths.

You will be assessed through assignment work, practical tests and short answer question papers.

Upon successful completion you may be able to progress onto an Apprenticeship in Hospitality or the level 3 T Level in Hospitality
