About the course

Are you an experienced human resources (HR) professional or a recent graduate with some relevant management experience? This level 5 professional HR qualification is a certificate accredited by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD). As a human resources management training programme, it will help you develop your ability to evaluate the effectiveness of different HR models and practices, and increase your understanding of the external factors that impact upon HR activities and organisations. Whilst building expertise in your chosen HR specialist subjects, you’ll also develop your planning, analytical and problem solving skills. You will study for one evening per week over a one year period in order to complete this valued HR qualification.

Entry requirements

You will already be employed in a human resources role and have preferably completed the Certificate in HR Practice or the Certificate in Personnel Practice.

We also welcome applications from those who have substantial experience and can demonstrate the ability to cope with the academic requirements of the course.

All applicants will be interviewed by the course tutor to ascertain that the course fulfils their needs.


Assessment is through a range of written assignments.

What's next?

Successful completion of this course will prepare you to progress to Plymouth University and apply for the MA in Human Resource Management. It also provides automatic upgrade to Associate CIPD membership.

Important information

Fees quoted apply to courses starting in the academic year 2020/21 (August 2020 – July 2021). There may be a slight increase in fees for courses starting 2021/22.

If you are aged 16-18, due to Government funding, tuition fees may not be applicable for your course. (Please note: this does not apply to Foundation Degrees or Access to Higher Education courses, and other courses not eligible for public funding.)
