About the course

Are you thinking about becoming a hairdresser, stylist, beautician, or beauty therapist? This level 1 VRQ City & Guilds qualification at City College Plymouth will give you an in-depth introduction to the hair and beauty sector. You’ll learn some basic employability skills such as how to present yourself with a professional image, as well as learning some hair and beauty basics such as skin care including cleanse, tone and moisturising, nail care including basic manicure and hair care including shampooing and conditioning techniques. This part-time, 6 month hair and beauty course provides a fun and inspirational insight into the industry and teaches all the basic skills required to progress to the next level such as:

  • presenting a professional image
  • an introduction to the hair and beauty sector
  • nail care
  • skin care
  • hair care including correct shampooing and conditioning techniques.
What you'll learn

  • an introduction to the hair and beauty sector
  • how to do a basic manicure
  • skin care
  • how to shampoo and condition hair.
Entry requirements

You will need to have:

  • a good level of English speaking, listening and writing
  • 100% commitment to course (including attendance)
  • good personal presentation.
Assessments/Exams

You will be assessed by written assignments.

“Fees quoted apply to courses starting in the academic year 2016/17 (August 2016 – July 2017). There may be a slight increase in fees for courses starting 2018/19.

If you are aged 16-18, due to Government funding, tuition fees may not be applicable for your course. (Please note: this does not apply to foundation degrees or access to higher education courses, and other courses not eligible for public funding.)”
