About the course

Engineers who design, analyse, test, produce and use all types of mechanical systems need to take a strong scientific and analytica approach to their work. The Foundation Degree in Mechanical Design and Manufacture at City College Plymouth will not only train you to a very high standard in these methods but also add a range of other vital competencies such as report writing, time management and budgeting. Through a mix of lectures, scientific experiments, and practical work-based training, you’ll gain considerable practical engineering knowledge across a range of subjects from fluids to 3D modelling. This university-level course is delivered at City College Plymouth and awarded by the University of Plymouth.

Entry requirements

In our experience in order to be successful on this level of course you will need to have a minimum of four GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above, including maths and science, a level 3 qualification in maths, and one of the following:

  • 48 UCAS tariff points – to include a science or maths-based subject
  • BTEC National Certificate or diploma in a related subject
  • an NVQ Level 3 (in a science or maths based subject)
  • equivalent qualifications or relevant work experience

Should the entry requirements not be met, then individual cases will be considered.

Assessments/Exams

Assessment will be through a mixture of coursework, in-class tests and examinations.
