As a Peer Worker apprentice, you’ll utilise your lived experience to connect with individuals on a personal level, offering empathy, understanding, and guidance. Your responsibilities will include collaborating with mental health professionals, advocating for individuals’ needs, facilitating peer support groups, and promoting recovery-focused approaches. This Apprenticeship provides a comprehensive learning experience, equipping you with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in a rewarding and impactful career in mental health support. Through this programme, you’ll not only enhance your professional capabilities but also contribute to the well-being and empowerment of others, paving the way for personal and career growth in the mental health sector.

Course information

This Apprenticeship will cover various areas, including:

  • building trust
  • effective communication
  • professional development
  • health and wellbeing.
This Apprenticeship spans 15 months, combining practical work experience with study. At least 20% of your time will be dedicated to off-the-job training, where you’ll gain valuable knowledge and skills through structured learning and hands-on practice. The remaining 80% will be spent working within a healthcare or social care setting, applying your learning in real-world tasks such as building trust with peers, developing effective communication strategies, and supporting the health and wellbeing of individuals. You will also focus on your professional development, gaining insights into the mental health sector, and understanding the importance of confidentiality and professional boundaries. This programme emphasises the value of lived experience, enabling you to use your unique perspective to support others on their recovery journeys.

For the best chance of success, learners are required to have a minimum of grade 4 (C) in English and maths.

The end point assessment will consist of an observation of practice and a professional discussion.

Following successful completion, you could progress onto employment within the sector.
