About the course

Do you want to work in the police, security or another criminal justice agency? By 2020 all police officers will need at least a level 3 qualification, so we are here to make sure you have what you need to reach your dream career.

This Level 3 Diploma in Police, Crime & Community will give you an in depth knowledge of the criminal justice system, covering the law, criminology and relevant criminal justice legislation. It will give you a chance to explore equality and diversity which is important to the CJS, while also planning for your career so you know exactly what it takes to be successful in your chosen profession. We also like to throw in a little fitness!

What you'll learn

This course will cover the following units:

  • government, policies and the uniformed public services
  • leadership and teamwork
  • citizenship, diversity and the public services
  • crime and its effects on society
  • police powers
  • behaviour in public sector employment
  • responding to emergency service incidents
  • aspects of the legal system and law-making process
  • security procedures in the public services.
Entry requirements

This course requires four GCSEs at grade 4 and above (including English and maths) or a relevant level 2 qualification.


Assessment will be via a combination of internal assignments and two external written exams.

What's next?

On successful completion of this course, you could go onto to study the FdSc in Community and Public Services at the College.
