About the course

This BTEC Level 1 Diploma is the perfect course for you if you’re looking forward to a career in the leisure industry or uniformed public services. It will give you the skills to need to progress to higher-level study in either field, or help you make the decision about which pathway is right for you if you’re still considering your options. We’ll give you a comprehensive overview of the industries and put you on the right track to becoming employable. This study programme is mostly practical and combines a wide range of activities. This year, our students helped out at the Plymouth 10K and Plymouth Half Marathon!

What you'll learn

This course includes the following subjects:

  • how exercise effects the body
  • training for fitness
  • playing sport
  • getting people active
  • keeping active and healthy
  • coaching skills in sport.

There is also the opportunity to take additional qualifications such as functional skills in English and maths.

Your individualised study programme will be made up of the following four areas:

  • the qualification you are studying
  • English and maths
  • work experience
  • other activities to develop your personal skills e.g. preparing you for employment, training or higher/further education.
Entry requirements

There are no specific entry requirements, however you must show a willingness to engage and a genuine interest in the course that will enable you to progress into employment or further education.

Assessments/Exams

The course is assessed on a continuous basis with written coursework and practical assessments.

What's next?

On successful completion you can progress to the BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Sport or Public Services.

Fees quoted apply to courses starting in the academic year 2018/19 (August 2018 – July 2019). There may be a slight increase in fees for courses starting 2019/20.
