About the course

Do you want to be a manager, supervisor or team leader? Are you a people person, happiest when working in a team? Team leaders tend to be in demand in any industry and this Apprenticeship in Team Leading at City College Plymouth will train you for your first supervisory role. Leaders play an integral role in supporting an organisation’s objectives – monitoring work, giving feedback, briefing teams, supporting team members, resolving problems, procuring supplies, project management and delivering good customer service. This Level 3 Apprenticeship standard in Team Leading is suitable for people who are entering a management role, or who have the ability and the opportunity to demonstrate recognisable management and leadership skills, providing leadership for a team, encouraging innovation, allocating and checking work. This qualification recognises the skills of candidates in the workplace and provides individuals with the opportunity to demonstrate the competences needed for a career as a team leader. Once you complete this course you could continue in your job and combine this with an advanced qualification.

What you'll learn

This apprenticeship standard comprises of knowledge and skills in the following areas:

  • managing and participating in a project
  • decision making.

You will achieve learning through a range of methods including distance learning, research, assignments and competence based learning (in the workplace).



Entry requirements

Acceptance on this Apprenticeship is via initial assessment. You will be expected to have a good grasp of English and maths and will need to undertake a formal assessment prior to acceptance onto the course.


Your work will be assessed through EPA (End Point Assessment) and will include:

  • a knowledge t est (using scenarios and questions)
  • a structured competency-based interview
  • an assessment of your portfolio of evidence
  • professional discussion (relating to your CPD Activity).

The EPA will be carried out by a third party independent to the College and you will have the opportunity to achieve a Pass, Merit or Distinction.

What's next?

On successful completion, you may be able to progress onto the Level 5 Higher Apprenticeship in Operations/Departmental Management.

Fees quoted apply to courses starting in the academic year 2018/19 (August 2018 – July 2019). There may be a slight increase in fees for courses starting 2019/20.
