Course information

This course will be delivered across ten weeks with supervised skills practice sessions to enable you to develop and refine your skills using both virtual reality and industry-simulated facilities. The following topics will be covered:

  • health and safety, including the identification of welding hazards
  • using welding techniques safely to produce beads on a plate, lap fillet weld, simple welding positions
  • identifying defects in the weld using visual techniques
  • identifying the consumables used for MIG welding
  • producing welds to a prescribed standard
  • introduction to TIG welding of ferrous metals
  • understanding the difference in the TIG and MIG processes
  • identifying when and which process is suitable for a given situation.

This course is suitable for both novices and professionals who are already working in the sector.

On successful completion, you will be offered an interview with a local engineering/manufacturing company.
