Our hairdressing course will get you into your dream job as a hairdresser! If you can put people at ease, like being creative and have loads of patience, then you’ve got a good head start in the skills that you’ll need to make a successful career in hairdressing. Our City & Guilds technical certificate will provide a thorough grounding in the theory and practice with external visits and competitions to help you find the self-assurance and competence to pursue a career in the hair and beauty industry. In order to participate fully within your course, you will need to purchase a kit and uniform. Details available at interview.
This course covers all aspects of basic hairdressing. You will gain experience working in a realistic environment created within the College Salon and will provide services to members of the public and other paying clients.
Units include:
- health and safety
- client consultation
- working in the hairdressing industry
- cutting women’s hair
- cutting techniques.
Your individualised study programme will be made up of the following four areas:
- the qualification you are studying
- English and maths
- work experience
- other activities to develop your personal skills e.g. preparing you for employment, training or higher/further education.
You will need a good standard of English and maths at GCSE level and/or a level one qualification in hairdressing.
You will be assessed through coursework, assignments and online tests.
On successful completion you may progress to:
- an Apprenticeship in women’s hairdressing or barbering
- the VRQ level 3 qualification in women’s hairdressing
- employment in the hairdressing industry as a salon assistant or junior stylist
Fees quoted apply to courses starting in the academic year 2021/22 (August 2021 – July 2022). There may be a slight increase in fees for courses starting 2022/23.
If you are aged 16-18, due to Government funding, tuition fees may not be applicable for your course. (Please note: this does not apply to Foundation Degrees or Access to Higher Education courses, and other courses not eligible for public funding.)
