What's it all about?

This course is designed for those who work in or wish to pursue a career within the vibrant and creative hairdressing industry. It will provide you with a range of the essential foundation practical skills and theory knowledge, which will prepare you for employment or further training.

Course information

You will study core hairdressing units including:

  • shampoo and conditioning the hair and scalp

  • cutting women’s and men’s hair

  • colouring and lightening the hair

  • styling and dressing hair

  • creative design 

  • perming

  • developing an understanding of working safely in the hairdressing industry

  • learn professional communication techniques to consult effectively and promote services and products to clients.

You will need to have GCSEs at grade 3 or above in English, maths and one other subject or an equivalent qualification, or completion of a Level 1 Introduction to the Hair and Beauty Industry qualification. 

All work will be assessed through development of a practical portfolio, written assignments, online exams and practical observations

Following successful completion of this course you can progress on to one of the following courses:

  • Level 3 VRQ in Women’s Hairdressing

  • Level 3 VRQ in Barbering
