digital inspiration - Stoke Damerel students

Budding young producers, directors and computer programmers from St Boniface’s Catholic College and Stoke Damerel Community College were left animated after City College’s first ‘Digital Inspiration’ event.

As a change from their usual lessons, the 11-14 year old students participated in a number of creative, hands-on activities including 3D design, programming and sound recording in the College’s state-of-the-art STEM Centre. The event coincided with The Heart of the South West’s ‘Digital Inspiration Week’ and the South West’s Big Bang event, which celebrate the opportunities by studying STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) subjects.

Erica Heslop-George, Youth Liaison Assistant at the College, said: “Plymouth is a real hub for digital talent and this event enabled local school children to discover the exciting range of digital subjects offered at the College, from computing to media. We hope that it has inspired them to think about the careers that are available in the digital sector.”

For young people who are seeking to explore their interest in media there is a Digital Design Summer Club running on both the 16 – 19 and 23 – 26 August. The club offers a unique look into the digital industries with four fun workshops exploring: 3D modelling, move making, animation and programming. Places are limited and should be booked through the College’s online store. For more information, please call 01752 305050 or e-mail STEM@cityplym.ac.uk
