eighth annual media awards

City College has celebrated its eighth annual media awards recognising their outstanding creative students. Following the format of established media awards events such as the BAFTAs and Oscars the award ceremony is always well received by students, staff, family and friends who gathered to view and congratulate the winners on their work.

This year, the level 2 media students planned and promoted the event as part of their Silver Arts Award. Show reels were created to showcase the work, testing the students’ creative planning skills.

Vicki Pinder, Lecturer in Media & Digital Industries at the College, said: “I could not be prouder of all our students. This year they have produced some exceptional work, and the awards ceremony gives us the opportunity to celebrate all the students’ successes with their friends and family.”

There were 12 awards presented over the course of the evening, ranging from Best Cinematographer to Best Radio Project and Journalist of the Year. Additional Student of the Year awards were presented to one student from each course level, before an overall Media Student of the Year winner received their recognition.

Connor Drew, 18, first year Student of the Year winner said: “I’d like to thank my friends, family, lecturers and City College for their support. I am so pleased to have won this award – it means a lot for my hard work to be recognised.”
