Enjoy the magic of panto in your home

27 November 2020 | College News

After what has been a testing year, we are all in need of some festive cheer, and City College Plymouth hopes to do this by bringing the magic of pantomime to your home.

Both Mr Scrooge and Cinderella are to be performed on two occasions over the coming week, and all are invited to watch these performances via a live stream. Higher education students will be performing Mr Scrooge at 7.00pm on Friday 27 November and on Monday 30 November, and level 3 students will be showcasing the classic pantomime favourite of Cinderella at 6.00pm on Wednesday 2 and Thursday 3 December. All performances are free to view – oh yes they are!

Higher Education Programme Lead, Sam Pomeroy, said: “Our higher education students have been working on their self-directed performance of Mr Scrooge for a few months. They had been hoping to do a tour of local primary schools, particularly targeting those in less affluent areas where children might not have the opportunity to enjoy this Christmas tradition. The situation with COVID meant the tour had to be cancelled, but the students were still desperate to be able to perform for the children, and so we have decided to live stream all of our pantomimes, with the level 3 students also wanting to get involved.

“We have opened this up to everyone and would love for as many people as possible to take advantage of this offer to get the festive season off to a great start. Whether you are young or old, have children or not, even if you are self-isolating, you can treat yourself to the magic of Christmas and watch these performances via the One 20 Digital YouTube channel.”

Students on other courses will also be getting involved with the pantomimes, with hair and beauty students putting their skills into practice by getting the actors ready for the stage, whilst live events students will be supporting the performers with lighting, staging and sound. Art and design students have also played a part by designing the projections for the backdrops.

To watch these free performances, simply log on to the One 20 Digital YouTube channel shortly before the performance is due to start.
