FREE courses for adults means FREE training for businesses
15 August 2018 | Opinion pieces
Strategically, training and upskilling your workforce is key to the success of any business, but often the associated costs make it difficult. However, thanks to recently announced Government funding, it may be possible to get the well-trained and knowledgeable staff your business needs for free.
The Government is trialling a new one-year scheme which offers a fantastic opportunity for adults to retrain or gain a recognised qualification via entry level, level one and level two courses.
All applicants need to do in order to prove their eligibility is to present evidence that their annual salary falls under £15,700. And the really good news is that this scheme isn’t about household income, but an individual’s own salary from full or part-time employment – which means there could be hundreds of Plymouth employees who are eligible to apply.
The numbers we have already seen signing up through the College prove that this is good news for people looking to expand their existing skills, retrain or gain a recognised qualification. But what does it mean for Plymouth’s businesses?
This Government funding is a real windfall for employers who are looking for innovative ways to support their staff and offers a cost-effective way to provide employees with certified, high-quality continued professional development education and training.
City College has a range of courses which fall under the conditions of the new scheme in areas such as accounting and business, hospitality and catering, hair and beauty, construction, and those all-important core English and maths skills.
Disruption to the day-to-day routine is also kept to a minimum as all of our adult part-time courses are designed to fit around work and home life.
Combining this latest funding offer with the recent Apprenticeship reforms means that there has never been a better time to train your workforce. However, this trial is available for one year only, so employers must act fast to guarantee that they can benefit from the Government’s scheme.
