Getting to grips with the latest decorating products

Crown Paints visited City College Plymouth on Wednesday to deliver a workshop to painting and decorating students.

Crown Paints representatives Kevin O’Donnell, national product trainer, and Richard Roberts, specification manager, brought with them a selection of Crown Paints’ latest products for the students to experience using along with a selection of tools.

The topics covered during the session included looking at problem-solving primers and water-based trim products, and selecting the correct tools to avoid problems with application.  The students were also given a presentation titled The Role of Colour. Kevin said: “In recent years there has been a rising demand for more sustainable products, which has required paint manufacturers to respond by increasing the quality of those already in existence and increasing the range.

“While many of the old, tried-and-tested trade techniques are still relevant, some of the skills that are taught need adapting to accommodate these newer paints and products. For those learning the trade, now is a great time to get to grips with the most up-to-date products to meet with the changing attitudes regarding the environment and sustainability.”

Syd Dart, painting and decorating lecturer, said: “We are grateful to Crown Paints for coming to see us today. It is essential that our students learn the most modern of practises to ensure they are fully prepared for a career in a changing industry.”

Richard and Kevin were also happy to take questions from the trainees, who all enjoyed the chance to experiment with these products.

The workshop was arranged in partnership with the Bell Group Decorating Academy.
