Helsinki Here We Come

03 April 2018 | Media, Games & Computing

Local students are jetting off to Finland as part of a new collaborative European game design project.

Funded by Erasmus+, the twelve City College Plymouth games, computing and media students are travelling to Helsinki to team up with students from a Finnish College. Over two weeks the young people will work together to design, programme and film the creation of an exciting role-playing game.

The students used a unique online platform to share ideas, discuss job roles, and build up a good working relationship. They all met for the first time via Google Hangout on Wednesday when they discussed the upcoming visit and swapped snow stories.

City College’s European Partnerships Officer, Cat Shepherd, said: “This is a very exciting opportunity for our students to gain valuable skills, get a taste of the world and broaden their horizons. This two week project is all about sharing and gaining industry knowledge, creating a strong partnership with the Finnish College and soaking up a new culture. It is a great chance to work together and create something incredibly exciting – I can’t wait to hear how they get on!”

City College has received the funding for this trip from the Erasmus+ 2014 – 2020 programme which gives vocational students opportunities to travel to another European country to experience studying and working abroad.

Those interested in pursuing a career in the creative industries or finding out more about the travel opportunities on offer are invited to attend the College’s Open Day on Saturday 28 April, 10.00am to 1.00pm at Kings Road. Visit cityplym.ac.uk/events or call 01752 305300 for more.
