Catering students at City College Plymouth enjoyed a skills session with one of the city’s top chefs on Monday 13 January.

Students from a variety of catering courses came together for the session that was led by Ben Palmer, owner and head chef of the Greedy Goose, whose session involved the correct way to filet a fish and saw the students preparing steamed mussels in a sumptuous butter sauce.

Ben, an award-winning chef who trained at the College, provided students with advice and tips throughout the day on how to assist them with their training.

Lecturer Robin Coton said the College was extremely lucky to have such great links with most of the city’s leading chefs. He said: “Nearly all of the biggest names in local cuisine  trained here at City College Plymouth and they all serve as great examples to current students just how far this industry can take you.

“Ben delivered a very useful session today and we are grateful to him for his time. We look forward to working with Ben in the future.”

The Greedy Goose is situated in the City Centre and offers what he describes as unpretentious, flavoursome food that is made from the very best seasonal produce from the Westcountry, and presents it in a modern and elegant manner.
