A keen runner who decided to turn his passion into a career has been singled out as an exceptional student at City College Plymouth’s Student of the Term awards.

Glenn Wood, a sports coach from Liskeard, received his award on Thursday 12 December after being nominated by lecturer Ian Davis. At the age of 56, Glenn is described as the most mature student to have studied strength conditioning and coaching at the College.

Glenn, who is men’s captain at the East Cornwall Harriers running club, has shown 100% commitment to his studies and has been praised for his excellent academic work and for having a positive influence on his peers.

Lecturer Ian said: “Glenn is a model student and deserves recognition for his continual commitment to his personal and professional development. In addition to this, he is also a very supportive and helpful member of the group. Glenn’s previous career means he is very capable when it comes to IT and he is always very willing to support colleagues who have struggled with particular tasks. He is generally the first person to volunteer to assist with extracurricular activities and he encourages involvement from others.”

Glenn said: “The knowledge I have picked up from this course has been invaluable to me as a coach. I love being able to use all I have learned when coaching and the benefits it has for the people I work with. Although a daunting move, I am glad I made the choice to follow my heart and turn my passion for sport into a rewarding career.”
