Local College’s Donation to CHICKS
13 September 2016 | College News
City College has celebrated its fundraising achievements for the last year by handing over a large cheque to CHICKS at a special presentation ceremony.
Every year, students and staff at the College raise thousands of pounds for good causes, including a nominated charity which is the focus for their fundraising efforts. For the 2015/16 academic year, the College chose to support CHICKS – a local charity that provides week-long respite breaks for disadvantaged children from across the UK.
College students and staff donated £4404.74 to the charitable organisation through various fundraising activities, including bake sales, pub quizzes, discos, raffles, a sponsored 10k and festive dress days.
Sam Selby, Events Officer at City College, said: “City College students and staff are enthusiastic fundraisers, and it has been a real pleasure to support the important work being carried out by CHICKS. We’re delighted to be able to present this cheque to this fantastic charity in the knowledge that our contribution will help give disadvantaged children the opportunity to make great memories and enjoy themselves.”
James Coakley, Regional Fundraiser at CHICKS, said: “We would like to thank the students and staff at City College for all their hard work and fundraising efforts over the past year. This amazing donation will really help us to continue our work with disadvantaged children, giving them the break away they deserve. We have already supported more than 100 children from Plymouth throughout 2016, and the money raised by City College will help us to support them even more in the future.”
To find out more about courses and other activities, the College is holding drop-in events every Wednesday throughout September, 4.30pm – 6.30pm, at Kings Road. Visit our events page or call 01752 305300 for more information.
