Media Students - Film Maritime Memorial Dinner

Media students from City College Plymouth have been invited to film at the prestigious QE2 charity event. The black tie dinner organised by former crew member, Douglas Kerr, will unite captains, crew, and guests that were aboard the Queen Elizabeth Two superliner between 1987 and 1991.

The College students will be filming the evening’s events and creating a ‘highlights’ reel containing all the best parts of the celebration. The film will eventually be uploaded to YouTube so people far and wide can enjoy the festivities.

The celebration commemorating the life of this historic cruise ship will take place on Saturday 24 September at the Duke of Cornwall Hotel. People will be travelling from all over the world to attend the evening that promises: a five course meal from the original menu which was served on board its last voyage; a champagne reception; White Star and QE2 exhibitions; an auction including artefacts from the QE2 ship as well as other donated prizes; and performances from Danielle Louise Thomas, Music Garden and Sugar Thieves.

“Getting industry experience is so important and being given the opportunity to film at such an exciting event is a fantastic opportunity,” said Vicki Pinder, Media lecturer at City College. “The students get to experience first-hand the kind of work they could be doing after getting their qualifications. We are expecting a high level of professionalism from them and know they will do City College and their course proud.”

Douglas Kerr, organiser of the event, said: “I’m a firm believer in helping out the local community and the future workforce in particular so offering industry experience to City College students seemed like a great idea. It’s a win-win situation really – they get to experience a real working environment and we end up with a memento of the evening for everyone who was and wasn’t able to attend. It promises to be a most memorable event and with this film we can treasure it always.”
